Georgia United Foundation, in partnership with Georgia United Credit Union, has completed another impactful year of its School Crashers® program, which offers facility makeovers to accredited K-12 schools across Georgia. This year, five schools were selected from 212 applicants to receive upgrades aimed at enhancing learning environments and supporting student well-being. Projects included calming spaces, science labs, media centers, and sensory rooms. Since its inception, the program has improved 81 schools and invested nearly $3 million in educational facilities. The next nomination period opens in mid-December.

Georgia United Credit Union announced that CEO Debbie Smith will retire on December 31, 2025. Under her leadership since 2013, assets grew from $950 million to over $2 billion. Laura King, current President, will succeed Smith as President and CEO effective January 1, 2026.

Georgia United Credit Union Announces 2025 Board Officers
Duluth, GA (July 3, 2025) — Georgia United Credit Union elected its 2025 Board of Directors Officers, reaffirming its commitment to strategic growth and community impact. Tom Dickson will continue as Board Chairman. Edwin T. Bell and Reverend Mark Starr will serve as Co-Vice Chairs, with Bell also chairing the Audit Committee. Frank Thach has been named Treasurer, and Sandy R. Burney will serve as Secretary. CEO Debbie Smith praised the board’s diverse expertise and dedication to member-focused service. Georgia United remains a leading financial institution with over $2 billion in assets and 150,000+ members.
