For the last eight years, Georgia United branches have collected over 386,598 cans of food during the month of February. This year will look a little different as we move away from collecting canned goods in our lobbies, to accepting monetary donations – which can be made online, as well as through Georgia United drive-up and in branch appointments.
Not only has COVID caused us to make adjustments but more
importantly monetary donations allow the food banks and pantries to better
meet the needs of those in need. This includes purchasing items like
nutritional food (proteins and fresh fruit in which they can buy at better
rates than the public can off supermarket shelves), allergen free foods and
sponsorship of educational programs to further help those experiencing food
insecurity and low poverty.
